As 2008 comes to a close the 2009 NAIAS starts the new year for us automobile and car show buffs here in chilled and snowbound North East.
In its 21st Year as an international event the NAIAS is the premier Automobile Manufactures event for North America.
The NAIAS is hosted in Detroit\\'s Cobo Hall, January 11 - 25, 2009 with 3 special events before the public opening.
The Press Preview- Opens the show, January 11-13.
The Industry Preview- January 14 and 15.
The Charity Preview- Last year raising 6 million dollars, benefiting a number of children\\\'s charities, January 16.
Open to the general public- January 17-25, 2009.
With automobile manufacturers facing some major changes and challenges in the coming years, an emphasis on the future of the automotive industry through new makes, models, concept vehicles, hybrid electric and alternative fuel technologies were prevalent highlights in this years show.
The small group of manufacturers who decided not to show this year were not missed, their loss, and allowed two Chinese Manufacturers to show in the main exhibit area.
Downstairs in Michigan Hall GM set up an electric vehicle road course, an elaborate exhibit taking anyone willing to stand in line for a ride in a silent running Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell vehicle.
Ford, General Motors and Chrysler with their fantastic concepts, technologies and displays are always worth the price of admission.
Here is a photo gallery of highlights and favorites from the 2009 North American International Auto Show.
