It's sunny on this afternoon in SE Michigan but some dark clouds are looming as we make our way to the largest car show and cruise in the world.
15 miles of Woodward Avenue, across the suburbs of Detroit make up the venue for the 29th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise.
Woodward is an iconic road that connects Detroit to Pontiac, Michigan about 27 miles away. From what I understand the first mile of Woodward was paved in 1909 and over the next 7 years another 26 miles would follow. As the Detroit steel and lumber industry grew and expanded it became a landmark in history and a the beginnings for automotive transportation as we know it today.
The auto industry set it's roots around this famous road and Detroit blossomed into the Motor City.
Street racing and cruising has always been popular on this legendary road and it is said that it was not uncommon for the wide array of automotive companies to test and tune their latest creations on Woodward Avenue.
A sprinkle of rain met us on I94 as we passed the Gateway bridge over Telegraph road.
Looks like Woodward's going to be wet this year.
As we passed the Uniroyal giant tire, we all smiled at its marvel, I took a photo and thought of our countries rich history of innovation and creativity.
Yes, the weather was wet and we got soaked by the time we were out of the car and walking 9 mile rd to the Ford exhibit, but the weather did not dampen the spirits of Michigan's largest gathering of automotive enthusiasts.
As in years past the city of Ferndale plays host to the Ford display and Mustang alley.
Where Shelby, Roush and Ford Performance show off their latest offerings.
The umbrella came in handy. The rainstorm was short.
Back in the car and out cruising the street, the sights and sounds of an event like this are unique and satisfying. In a parade of thousands of cars, trucks and bikes like no other, we celebrate our collective automotive history and great love for the automobile.
This incredible car scene is an event everyone in the family will enjoy, Historic Churches and Landmark Architecture line the avenue, the entire drive is filled with a gallery of art, businesses, restaurants, bakeries, food vendors and refreshment stops of every kind.
An amazing tribute to our car culture and heritage of automotive ingenuity. This is a one of a kind, world class show.
Flatheads and flame throwers,
shoe box sleepers and modern street machines.
Hot rods and hemi's,
T-Bucket roadsters and fat fendered trailer queens.
See you next year.
