On a beautiful spring morning we assembled and drove to Riverside park in historic Ypsilanti, Michigan. The sun was shinning and the clear sky was a soft, silvery blue, a perfect day for the 12th annual Ypsilanti Orphan Car Show.
An orphan is a car whose parent companies no longer manufacture vehicles in the U.S., with a few exceptions. A show filled with 300 specimens of automotive history and odd ducks. If you like old cars that you have never seen before this the a place to be on June 1st.
This year the show featured DeSoto and the newly inducted, 8 year orphan, Plymouth. A few others include; Studebaker, Rambler, MG, AMC, REO, Nash, Amphicar, a beautiful collection of Willys, Ann Arbor and of course Hudson (including the Fabulous Hudson Hornet whose home is in Ypsilanti), and many others.
A pass-in-review conducted by auto historians makes this show fun and educational. A must see for any history buff and a photo opportunity that only comes once a year.
