We attended the 2008 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance on March 9th 2008, laid out on the golf course of the magnificent Ritz Carleton Hotel in Amelia Island.
The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is always held at the perfect time of year in the southeast US, spring is well under way, the grass and trees are glowing with green and the morning air is only slightly chilly as the sun rises over the beaches and Atlantic ocean. Perfect conditions for a car show.
There is always a remarkable array of automobiles at Amelia, this year some of the highlights were.
On display were all three new 2009 Muscle cars! The 2008 Parnelli Jones Edition Mustang, the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT/8 and the 2009 Camaro. Coming soon to a dragstrip or street near you.
An extensive collection of vintage Trans-Am cars including Parnelli Jones Trans-Am winning Boss 302, and most of the signinficant competitors of the day including the 1968 Sunoco Camaro, Trans-Am Challengers and Barracudas, and Javelins.
The italian displays included a beautiful blue and yellow Ferrari 250 GTO, a Lamborghini Miura SV in a stunning Dark Blue and many other notable and beautiful Italian rarities.
This years featured guest was Parnelli Jones who among many other victories drove Fords Mustang Boss 302 to the Trans-Am championship in 1970 and on display were many of his most famous racing cars.
The collection of pre-war cars at these type of events is always amazing with their enormous variety and opulence for the era.
