This is an introduction to the 2005-2008 Porsche 911 (997) models, there are a confusing variety of models and the idea here is to make it easy for you to see the primary differences.
All 2005-2008 911s are equipped with a rear mounted Horizontally opposed six cylinder engine also referred to as a "Flat" or "Boxer" type engine. Because the engine is arranged flat with three cylinders on each side they have a very low center of gravity and fit well in the sloping rear end of the 911. There are many benefits to this type of arrangement including excellent traction and easy serviceability.
We attended the 2008 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance on March 9th 2008, laid out on the golf course of the magnificent Ritz Carleton Hotel in Amelia Island.
The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is always held at the perfect time of year in the southeast US, spring is well under way, the grass and trees are glowing with green and the morning air is only slightly chilly as the sun rises over the beaches and Atlantic ocean. Perfect conditions for a car show.
We attended the Detroit Auto Show on January 22nd 2008, we drove in from the cold January Michigan winter to enjoy the Hot spotlights, models and of course new automobiles on display at one of the greatest auto shows in the world right here in Detroit.
All of the top Auto Manufacturers had their best new vehicles on display, but noticeably absent was Porsche.
